It is always exciting when you buy your first home (or any home for that matter). My sister would never consider buying anything but a brand spanking new house. My brother decided to design and build he and my sister in law’s dream home. For my family, we were on a tight budget, so we decided on buying an older home. Granted we got a great price on the house, but it was built in the early 1980’s and boy does it show! From the pink, blue and white floral wallpaper in the bathroom, to the oak cabinets in the kitchen, it screams retro! One of our first projects we decided to tackle was the kitchen, especially the very outdated cabinets. Not only was the finish of the cabinets dated, but the layout and the amount of space they provided was not optimal either. When I found out that The Home Depot had an entire section dedicated to cabinets for the kitchen, I knew they were the place to go for our DIY project.
Design Your Dream Kitchen
When we decided to tackle the kitchen as our first DIY project, we decided to do a few small projects first. Once we had completed those and had added a few personal touches, then we felt we could move on to the bigger projects. The first thing we did was to have valances made from fabric I chose with our color palette. After those were made and hung, we took an old buffet cabinet with missing doors and painted it an orange that matched the valance. This was going to house our extra place setting of dinnerware and small appliances we had no room for. The last thing we did before tackling the cabinets was to put up a cool wall decal that matched the same orange we had used to paint the cabinet. This was an easy and very affordable project that made a huge statement in the room. The next step was to visit The Home Depot and choose our cabinets. I am reassured that one can design your dream kitchen with the products from The Home Depot, either online or at your local store. There are 3 reasons that my husband and I chose The Home Depot for our kitchen update; quality, affordability and customer service. We have been shopping at The Home Depot for many years now and I have never had a negative experience. We trust their high quality products and the advice from their knowledgeable staff. We recently had to replace our kitchen faucet and my husband forgot to get the brand of the old one to know what to buy for the new one. The gentleman from The Home Depot told him to have me take a picture of the old faucet and he could probably tell from the photo what we needed. Low and behold, that is exactly what happened! How awesome is that?! For the cabinets, we took a lot of time looking at the huge selection of cabinets available. You can purchase cabinets that are ready to install immediately or you can order online from their Quick Ship selections. If you need to , you can have the help of their qualified design team who can help you create your perfect dream kitchen.
