It can be boring to live in a space that looks the same for too long. Redecorating gets really expensive though, and most people don’t have the budget to redecorate their entire house on a regular basis. However, I believe there are three things you can do to any room to make it look brand new without breaking the bank.
The first one is an easy one. Change it up with paint! You don’t have to do an entire room, either. Many people actually prefer painting just an accent wall in a room to add some personality and pop without the color being overpowering. Think about the colors or your furniture or accessories that you currently have and choose something either similar in color or right across it on the color wheel, as it will act as a perfect compliment to the other colors you’re using in the room. If you want to try a bold, fun color for the first time but are apprehensive, start with a smaller wall to allow yourself a chance to get used to the added color.
Next, change up your lighting. This will require a small investment, but it’s nothing compared to redecorating an entire room, and will really make a dramatic impact. I would recommend trying something completely new and different for the most impact. For example, if you currently have more traditional lighting in your home, try some contemporary lighting instead. Even if you think contemporary isn’t your style or might not go with your current furniture, don’t rule it out. The clean, crisp lines of contemporary lighting often will go with any other decor and will make the entire room feel more current. Also, one of the most dramatic changes to lighting that you can make to your home is to look at all of the options you have for foyer chandeliers. This is often the first thing people see when they walk into your home, so if your foyer chandelier screams “outdated” your guests will think that you are too. Lighting is probably my favorite way to update space and make them look brand new.
Lastly, rearrange your furniture. I know that your bed has been in the same place for so long that you can’t imagine it would even fit anywhere else in your room, but pull out your tape measure and start looking at your options. Simply moving the furniture to a new layout can completely change how the room looks. Improper furniture placement can make a room look smaller and darker, so really experiment with what works best for the shape of your room. Don’t be afraid to try something new, and if you decided you don’t like it, it’s easy enough to change up, and won’t cost you a penny. I think you’ll be surprised at how much just moving your existing furniture around can change the overall look of a space.
I personally can’t afford new furniture and accessories on a regular basis, and I don’t know many people who can, but that doesn’t mean you have to be bored with your space. Just follow my easy tips above and you’ll be living in a whole new house without even spending a fortune.
