This summer certainly flew by for my family and I. We had such a great time hanging out with each other at home as well as some of our favorite vacation spots. We were able to go to a cool resort with an indoor water park, visit my daughter in Atlanta and visit a few of our favorite amusement parks. I must admit, I was ready for school to start because I needed a break from all of the constant activity! With the kids being older, they are more and more involved in school, which means they come home later in the day. There are 3 days a week Caitlin does not get home until almost 6:30. On days like that, it is super easy to get caught up in homework, chores, PTA, sports and other obligations. It seems we do not get to spend as much time together as a family and I hate that. In order to be sure we stay connected, I try to get everyone to participate in a fun family activity. Here are just a few of the things we like to do:
4 Fun Activities For The Whole Family
- Crafts: We really like to get out the craft box and create something as a family. This summer we started an herb garden and we are ready to replant them into larger pots. We had a lot of fun painting clay pots we found at the home and garden store.
- Games: we really enjoy playing games together and we have a list of favorites we like to play. We play board games like Clue or Life as well as on the XBox like Family Game Night or Wipe Out.
- Cooking: We love to cook together, and as the kids are getting older, they are able to help more in the kitchen. Caitlin has gotten to the point where she can prepare simple meals for the family all by herself. Henry is happy to help measure, prep food and set the table.
- Movies: I love to take a walk around the block after we have eaten our evening meal. This gives us a chance to catch up on our days and really connect with one another. Once we get back, we will cuddle up on the sofa and turn on Netflix and tune into one of our favorite family shows.
Henry is huge on animated programming,s o we watch a lot of cartoons and animated movies. One of my favorites from Netflix this month has to be “Cloudy With A Chance OF Meatballs 2.” This movie was so hilarious and I was astonished at how clever the creators were with the different foods they brought to life. Caitlin has been interested in watching “retro” movies like “Clueless” and “The Breakfast Club.” Since these are two of my favorite movies, I am happy to oblige her and watch with her. When you are ready to settle down and watch your favorite Netflix programs, be sure to build yourself a fort like this DIY Fort Blanket for Netflix from Kelly Ladd Sanchez.
Netflix has a ton of great family programming for the whole family to enjoy. For the younger kids, you can see great titles like Bob the Builder or Angelina Ballerina. For the older kids, you can see “The Smurfs 2” or “Free Birds”. There is programming for everyone in the family to enjoy. Netflix is easy to stream on your laptop, mobile device or through your gaming device. With programs starting at under $10, there is a package to fit just about any budget. Be sure to visit Netflix on Twitter and Facebook to stay current with their latest titles!
