I don’t tend to spend money on myself. If we have “extra” funds, I use it to buy stuff for my husband or the kids. But my one weakness is candles. I can’t get enough of them. I have sold candles in the past for different companies. I have also made my own candles. But Diamond Candles are unlike any candle I’ve ever seen.
Diamond Candles make soy candles in an array of scents, including Chocolate Truffle, Apple Slice and Fresh Snow. These slow burning candles come well packaged in LOTS of bubble wrap and contain a jar lid. But, that isn’t what makes these candles so special. Diamond Candles places a ring in every candle. Yep, you read that right, a ring. Their rings range in price from $10 costume jewelry and go up from there, ending in impressive $5000 rings!
I have to confess, I’ve been eyeing these candles for about a year now. I love surprises and thought this would be a fun way to satisfy my desire for yummy smells in the home and get a little sparkle with it! But, like I said, I’m hesitant to spend money on myself. But after burning my Diamond Candle, I will be buying more!
These candles have amazing fragrance. I was sent a Cupcake fragrance to try and the entire house smells like I’ve been baking all day when it is lit. In my candle experience, a LOT of jar candle companies add a small amount of fragrance to the wax and then spray fragrance on top. That way when you open it you get a burst of fragrance that quickly dissipates. This is definitely NOT the case with Diamond Candles. I’ve been burning this candle for four days, non-stop, and it still smells great. And it is so slow burning that I’ve only used about a third of the candle (that is with 8-10 hours burns a day!!!)
Now to the fun part. Every candle has a “foil mark” on the side of the candle. This dot lets you know the depth of your ring, so you have a general idea how long you have to wait. Mine was about an inch or so below the surface of the wax. I lit that candle the minute I got it out of the box. As the wax melts, the ring will be revealed. You’ll see a foil package appear in the wax. At that point, blow out the candle and use tweezers or some other tool to extract the package. It is recommended you do not use your fingers or you could burn yourself on the wax. After you let the wax cool, open the foil package and remove the zip-top bag to reveal your ring!
This is one of those times that patience is a virtue. (Although, admittedly, I have very little 😉 ). But if you remove the package too soon or are not gentle on the extraction, wax ends up all over the side of the candle , you, your countertop, etc. I’ve watched several of the extraction videos on Diamond Candle’s blog and saw the mess some people made. I wanted to be able to use my candle after the ring comes out, so I was very gentle and waited for the foil to fully be exposed.
Now to the ring. Inside the little bag was a pretty little costume ring. I didn’t score one of the big “wins”, but I am happy with my find. When you get your ring out you can judge the worth by what is on the inside of the ring. Mine said China, which meant costume. But if yours says 14K or something similar, time to head to a jeweler for an appraisal!
I am not able to wear my ring because it is a very small ring, but it fits my mother-in-law and she loves it. If you get a ring that you don’t love or can’t wear, you can always visit Diamond Candle’s Facebook page to exchange the ring. Lots of other Diamond Candle owners post their rings for swapping.
All in all, I am very happy with this product. Originally the $24.95 price tag was a bit daunting to me for a candle. But, after seeing the high quality of the candle and realizing that even if I end up with a costume piece I have some new jewelry and an amazing candle all for a mere $24.95, I was sold. I will be ordering more Diamond Candles for me and for gifts in the near future.
