Back To School Bedtime Routine
As much as I don’t like it, school is starting in less than a month here in Florida and we need a back to school bedtime routine and QUICK! Ever since my soon to be 5 year old was 18 months old I have been in a bad bedtime rountine with her. I made the mistake of staying with her to get her to go to sleep and now here we are years later and she’s afraid to stay in her room alone. I was at my wit’s end when I was given the opportunity to review the SleepBuddy Complete Sleep System. As luck would have it a couple of days before my Sleep Buddy arrived her night light died so it was meant to be that I receive this sleep system to review!
Sleep Routines For Children
I never realized how important sleep routines for children really are, if you don’t have a routine you will surely loose your mind…slowly but surely I can guarentee it. It’s taken me 4 years to figure this out and when I had my second child 1.5 years ago I made a deal with myself that I would never sleep in the room with her and that she would sleep independently! So far so good on #2, but my oldest needs HELP!!! The awesome thing about SleepBuddy is that it comes wrapped as a present, so when she opened it she got so excited! It’s a circular blue light that sits on a flat surface. It needs to be plugged into the wall and has a programable clock. You set the current time, the go to sleep time and the wake up time. I set mine to turn on at 8pm and turn off at 8 am. The first night the light turned on and we sat down to read The Bedtime Book. She seemed to grasp the idea of staying in bed while the light was on and when the light goes off she can get up. It comes with a reward chart so I taped it up in her room and told her that if she goes 7 straight days staying in her bed all night I will bring her to Build A Bear. So far in a week she was slept 3 nights in her bed but not 3 in a row…small baby steps is what I keep telling myself (this problem didn’t create itself in a week so it won’t change in a week, right???)!!!
The SleepBuddy Complete Sleep System is a great tool to teach kids to stay in their bed all night, the book and reward chart was a great idea. I didn’t think the light was easy to program but then again I’m not great with gadgets…I figured it out after a little bit and it’s been working great! You can purchase a SleepBuddy for $34.95.
