If I had to choose one beverage to drink the rest of my life it would be tea. Tea is the perfect beverage in my mind because of its versatility. You can drink it hot or cold, sweet or unsweetened, decaf or regular, flavored, green, black, white. I could go on and on. When I’m stressed, sick or cold, I reach for a mug of the hot stuff. But making a perfect cup of hot tea is frustrating to me. The best teas come from loose leaves, in my opinion, but I can never find my tea ball when I need it (thanks to Little Monster hands).

Libre Tea has come up with a hot tea on the go solution. They make an insulated tea cup that allows you to brew the perfect cup of tea without the use of a tea ball or strainer. The inside layer of the cup is glass to keep the tea hot. The outer layer of the cup is plastic to keep the cup cool to the touch. The cup has a lid that twists on and off. The seal is secure enough for you to turn the cup upside down and not leak. The lid screws onto a strainer that you use in place of the tea ball.

Using the Libre Tea cup is simple. For green tea (teas that don’t have a limit to steeping time), simply fill the cup with the appropriate amount of loose tea leaves. Then pour the hot water over top of the leaves. Twist the strainer in place, followed by the lid. Once your tea has steeped the desired amount of time, drink your tea directly through the strainer. In the case of black teas (teas that have a limit to steeping time), fill the cup with hot water. Twist the strainer in place and then add the tea leaves to the top of the strainer. Twist the lid on and turn the entire cup upside down. After the steeping time is up, turn the cup upright, remove the lid, twist off the strainer and drink directly from the cup.

Libre sent me their Libre Large to try out. It is attractive, easy to use and makes a tasty cup of tea. I was impressed how even with near boiling water added to the cup, I was able to twist on the lid and go without burning my fingertips. The outer plastic layer was cool to the touch as the company claims. The strainer was effective at keeping the loose leaves from passing through the strainer. I tried it with both green and black tea. Both were great!
